Hammered Shield

Parmelia sulcata

Hammered Shield forms broad, pale gray rosettes with softly lobed margins and a subtly sculpted surface. The thallus often appears dusted or frosted, especially where powdery reproductive structures collect along ridges and folds. In these images, the lichen grows across weathered bark alongside a mix of bright yellow and granular crusts, creating a layered and textured community typical of mature tree trunks.

For identification details and comparison with other similar species, see the Parmelia sulcata page in the Field Notes section.
