Celastrales Field Notes
This section is a work in progress. It will continue to evolve as I add more field notes, photographs, and comparisons for the families within Celastrales. The goal is to create a resource that emphasizes the observable characteristics of these plants in their natural habitats, aiding in identification and appreciation of their diversity.
Celastrales is treated here as a taxonomic order within the eudicots, following the APG IV system. It belongs within the rosid branch of the core eudicots. The families included in this section are Celastraceae, the bittersweet or staff-vine family, and Lepidobotryaceae. Each family page will include field notes, photographs, and comparisons to help with identification and understanding of these plants in their natural contexts.
Content in this section may include:
- Field observations recorded across seasons and locations
- Notes on growth form, leaf arrangement, flower structure, fruit, habitat, and seasonal timing
- Comparisons between similar species or related genera
- Taxonomic placement from major plant groups down to species

The Gallery presents these plants as photographic subjects; these field notes explore them as biological organisms.
