Common Ringlet
Coenonympha tullia
The Common Ringlet is a small, delicate butterfly of grassy places, often seen flying low through meadows, field edges, and open wetland margins. Its soft tan underside and warm orange forewing patch can blend easily into sunlit grasses, making even a resting individual feel partially hidden in its habitat.
This page currently begins with a single photograph, showing the butterfly tucked among tall green grass stems. The visible orange forewing patch and small pale-ringed eyespot give the image useful identification value, while the surrounding grasses show the kind of setting where this species is often encountered.
For identification details and comparison with similar species, see Coenonympha tullia in the Field Notes section.
