Hobomok Skipper
Poanes hobomok
The Hobomok Skipper is a small, warm orange-and-brown skipper butterfly with a compact body, hooked antennae, and a quick, alert presence. In these photos, the butterfly is settled on a broad green leaf, where the sun brings out the amber tones in the wings while the darker margins and body give it the sturdy, moth-like look that many skippers have.
For identification details and comparison with similar species, see Poanes hobomok in the Field Notes section.
